I’m back with another lipstick swatching post. I was originally going to post about these guys back in November when I snagged them in my Ulta 20% off coupon + 2k Point redemption haul. Buuuuut around this time my camera and/or memory card had a melt down and I lost a ton of pictures. Like, a ton. It’s not even fair. Ok, so maybe (totally) bad on me for not backing up the photos on that card, but heartbreaking non the less.
I did end up getting an upgrade in camera equipment in late December/January, but didn’t really want to re-shoot all the things I had lost from that memory card. Since some of the things I had planned to post about were limited edition holidays set, I felt like the moment had passed and didn’t feel as compelled to start over again on those posts.
However, one of my favorite stores came to the rescue with some inspiration. Yes, Marshalls, how I adore you. The Anastasia Beverly Hills Mini Liquid Lipstick Trio has started popping up at discounted prices at Marshalls stores all over and has revived my desire to slap on some lipstick and share with you pretty colors!
But for now, lets kick it off with some ABH
The Anastasia Beverly Hills Mini Liquid Lipstick Trio retails for $25 at Ulta, Sephora, and the official ABH website. The minis in this set contain 0.08 OZ of product in 3 different colors, 2 of which are LE.
And don’t let the “mini” fool you. I took a look at how much is in a full size ABH liquid lipstick, a full sized tube contains 0.11 OZ of product and retails for $20. So if I’m doing my bad estimating math right, each mini is about 70% of a full tube! It’s a solid deal to try out the brand in three different colors!
BUT like I mentioned earlier, this same set has started appearing in Marshalls for like $14.99! That is just a steal. You don’t need math for that Ok, no, you probably still do need math..stay in school
Hudson is probably my favorite of the set and is one of the limited edition shades. The ABH website describes it as a deep peachy shade. I find that description to be pretty accurate, this shade doesn’t pull too orange or too brown on my skin tone. It’s a perfect every day lip and I adore wearing this when I wear orange toned eye shadows or sport a neutral brown eye. Its really fitting for my at the office makeup.
Dazed is a popular permanent shade that is described as a redwood shade on the ABH website. I’m not sure I would consider this a redwood type of shade, I feel like this has a slight pink tone under that red. Its a gorgeous color, I just wouldn’t describe it as redwood. This is a bit more loud than I usually wear I haven’t worn it out as much as I have worn Hudson, but it’s a color I want to wear more often.
Bittersweet is the other limited edition shade. The ABH website describes this shade as a Swiss chocolate color. I agree with this color description, Bittersweet is a nice warm brown color that is dramatic but flattering. This is probably the one I haven’t worn too much, but that’s just due to my shyness towards colors this dramatic, but I am really feeling this color!
Pardon any redness around my lips in this swatch, I haven’t done lips swatches in a while and forgot to not be so rough removing the colors from my lips. Now my skin is a little irritated and it shows. Oops!
Prior to this purchase I only owned one other ABH liquid lipstick which is in the shade Dusty Rose. While their formula is not my top favorite, but it’s not bad either.
The consistency of these lipsticks is a smooth liquid that doesn’t take long to dry down completely matte. Once this color sets it does not budge, however, the trade off is that it may feel a little dry depending on your liquid lipstick tolerance. I primarily wear liquid lipsticks and find that my experience with this is that I can feel the formula on my lips, it’s a tad dry, but I can wear this comfortably during the day.
All the colors are pretty opaque in one coat, which is good because I don’t like layering this formula too much. I experienced a little bit of pilling/crumbling with the shade Dazed when I tried to layer a touch up. I think I over applied the formula during that application, but it’s still something to look out for. Despite the pilling, the color didn’t smudge around.
Like essentially every liquid lip this will come off if you eat anything with oil in it, but otherwise is transfer proof and will last me up until I eat. I don’t know what’s up with my diet, maybe I eat way too many oily foods, but I usually only expect my lipsticks to last until a meal, I don’t mind re-touching or re-applying after eating.
In quick summary, my feelings on this mini set:
- Opaque formula
- Transfer proof
- Long lasting
- Gorgeous colors
- May pill if you over apply
- Wears away after oily meals
- May not be the most comfortable for drier lips.
I’d say this set is worth picking up to try the colors and formula out for yourself, especially if you can snag it at Marshalls.
Have you seen this set around? Would you pick it up if you stumbled across it at Marshalls?
Let me know your thoughts and favorite shade!
