Welcome to 2017 at my little corner of the Internet. I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday season. December was a quite crazy and busy and frankly I wasn’t able to keep up with everything going on and I ended up putting things here on hold.
I meant to throw up this post back in December, but hey, better than never right?
In late November/early December I was stalking the aisles of Walgreens hoping to stumble across any of the holiday releases for some of my favorite drugstore brands. At first I thought I was going to totally strike out when I saw the usual spots for displays empty of any of the releases I was interested in. However, I remembered that sometimes Walgreens got tricky with their display placement and stash them at the top of the aisles. That’s where I struck gold.
A nearly untouched display of Wet N Wild’s MegaList Liquid Catsuit Matte Lipsticks! I stood on my tippy toes and grabbed every color to inspect. In the end, I settled on 6 out of the 13 colors.
Nudist Peach is a quite appropriate name for this shade. This color is quite nude but still stands out as just slightly bright against my skin tone. I was originally a tiny bit worried that this color would be either too pale or just clash against my skin tone, but I actually think it proved me wrong!
Corral Corruption is a lovely soft coral shade that would be perfect for spring. I wasn’t too sure how I was going to like this shade on me, I thought it would probably end up pulling too orange on me, but I actually really dig it!
I was drawn to Rebel Rose instantly. I’ve been so into the dusty rose and mauve tones that have been trending over the last year, that I absolutely could not resist. However, upon application, I felt that in certain lighting this color washes me out. I like it in this photo, but in the lighting in another part of my apartment this almost looked like a lavender toned color that drained the color from my face. Tricky one, this lipstick is.
Give Me Mocha
This shade was actually the only one that was totally gone from the display! I was bummed out that I was going to miss out on Give Me Mocha, however when I went to check out at the cash register in the beauty section, I saw it abandoned in a random display! I inspected it to make sure the lipstick still had the plastic seal and added it to my purchase! This shade is a lovely rose-y brown lipstick that I can see being ultra flattering across lots of skin tones.
Berry Recognize is a stunning true berry tone. I honestly didn’t expect to love this color as much as I did, especially since I don’t really sport berry tones all that often.
Each of these lipstick swatches were done with two swipes. The lighter shades such as Nudist Peach, Rebel Rose, and Coral Corruption were a bit streaky. I think its probably because these shades seemed to have more of a white based formula and white based formulas tend to be a bit streakier. However, I wouldn’t really list this as a complaint since the colors smoothed out to a smooth finish with a light second pass which I would have done anyways to clean up the edges. The other shades had a lot more opaque and even coverage in the first application. They didn’t really need a second pass, but I did just as a fine tuning step.
The formula for all of these felt quite light and comfortable on the lips. They didn’t feel ultra drying and didn’t crack or pill on me. These liquid lipsticks all dried down fully matte within minutes of application. As far as being transfer proof, I felt these did well against things such as drinks, light snacking, and kisses. However, they wore off during actual meals if I wasn’t careful. I wore Rebel Rose and Give Me Mocha to lunch a few times and even with food that wasn’t really oily, these wore away at the center of my lips by the end of my meal. But the reapplication layered well over the existing color when I touched up after my meal, so points for that.
These retail for $4.99 at more drugstores, which is actually a price increase from their previous liquid lipsticks. However, from what I remember, the reviews from the last release were not super stellar. So while some people are complaining about the increase, I’m okay with it if the product is much better than their previous formulation. I know I have some from the fall collection that I never actually tried (these were misplaced after I move apartments), so I wish I could compare and tell you, but I can at least say that I do like this current formulation. And even with the price increase, $5 for good liquid lipstick is a darn deal. I snagged these during a BOGO 50% off, so I’m totally satisfied with my purchase.
Now, would I buy these again? Sure. I probably won’t pick up another of the existing shades since I picked up all the colors I was interested the first time around, but I would look forward to new color releases!
Honestly, Wet n Wild is awesome and I think they did a great job on these lipsticks. If you see these and love liquid lipsticks or want to try out a nice liquid lipstick without splurging, I would totally recommend them!
So have you tried these or are you interested in picking one up? Let me know!
