I’m actually really excited at the moment! On Pinterest I have two boards, one displaying my current collection of stamping plates and the second displaying the stamping plates I want. It is an exciting moment when I get to move a plate from my wish list to my collection list. While some plates are easier to acquire, some aren’t as easy.
I was recently able to move a plate from one board to the other! I’ve been wanting this plate ever since I started stamping. The plate in question is Chocolate Vanity’s HP plate! And although it is readily available through her Etsy shop, due to where her shop is located shipping is expensive and unfortunately more than I can bring myself to pay, but that’s true with a lot of international shipping. Recently though, I was finally able to get my hands on it via someone in the US who decided to sell theirs. I jumped at the chance and about two days later I had the plate in my hands!
Isn’t it beautiful? I absolutely love Harry Potter, when the first movie came out I was about 11 years old, so I kinda felt like I grew up with the characters. I read those books so many times and have visited the Wizarding World of Harry Potter in Orlando where my only regret was that I did not have enough money to buy EVERYTHING lol.
Now that I have this plate in my possession, I now intend to do a Harry Potter series. I will start with the Houses of Hogwarts and first up is Ravenclaw.
For this manicure I started off with two coats of OPI’s ‘Unfor Greta Bly Blue’ from their Fall 2012 Germany collection, which is an incredibly beautiful blue by the way. The Silver stamping was done with Sally Hansen’s ‘Silver Sweep’.
The decal was tricky. It had lots of little detail and was super hard to photograph. For the Decal I used Mundo De Unas stamping polish in ‘Iris’. Then I colored in parts of the Decal with ‘Silver Sweep’ and a Lancome polish that I can’t find the name of, but its a light blue. Next I colored the banner in with Sally Hansen’s ‘Lightning!’.
I apologize, this photo is out of focus, but its the best I could get of the accent nail decal. Its rather difficult to get it both in focus and without a highlight streak from the lighting. Again, I also apologize for the change in lighting, the sun was playing peek a boo with me.
I wanna share a little fun fact about the Hogwarts Houses with you: in the books Ravenclaw’s house colors are Blue and Bronze, but for whatever bizarre reason in the movies their colors changed to Blue and Silver (and they were the only house whose colors where changed). Online there is a bit of debate on which should be recognized as the official colors, and although my manicure above pays tribute to the movie version of Ravenclaw, as a fan of the books I could not ignore the book version and thus painted my right hand in true to book colors. Instead of silver I used Essie’s ‘Good as Gold’.
Thanks so much for looking! I hope you enjoyed this mani. Next I hope to do Slytherin. Do
